Technology is built for humans. But not every technology achieves its initial goal. To create a new technology that can truly benefit humans, in every stage of development, we must carefully consider the people who will use the technology. IST's mission is to devise human-centered designs, systems, and artifacts that can practically augment people's well-being, productivity, and creativity. We make people achieve better and more by measuring human behavior and attitudes in building new information systems and tools. Based on a deep empirical understanding of how people interact with technology, IST's faculty innovate state-of-the-art AI-driven automation design and scientific research methodologies in various sub-fields including the areas of Human-Computer Interaction, Ubiquitous Computing, and Social Computing to build novel tools with broad societal impact.

Subfields:

  • Augmented Reality
  • Computer Graphics
  • Creativity Support
  • Crowdsourcing
  • Expert Tools
  • Human-AI Collaboration
  • Interactive Machine Learning
  • Mobile, Wearable, and Ubiquitous Computing
